Granules for Pots & Garden Products — UV Resistance and Color Consistency
The most critical property for pot and garden product production is the carbon black content of the granule — granule containing 2–2.5% carbon black provides natural UV protection. This makes black granule the most economical and durable option for outdoor plastic products.
Which values matter in pot production?
- Carbon black (2–2.5%): Pots spend years under sunlight. Sufficient carbon black absorbs UV radiation and protects the polymer — eliminating the cost of additional UV additives.
- MFI: 12–17 is ideal for thin-walled, detailed pot molds; 8–12 is sufficient for thick-walled large pots.
- Color consistency: Pots are typically sold in sets — color homogeneity within and across batches is decisive for visual quality.
- Odor: Well-washed recycled granule produces no odor during molding; moisture and contaminants in low-quality granule do.
How is surface quality achieved?
In visual products like pots, surface defects directly affect sales. 120-mesh filtered granule traps the particles that cause surface dots and scratches during production. Ash content ≤ 0.5% is required for a smooth, glossy finish — a standard property of our Injection Series granule.
Recommended product
For pots and garden products we recommend our Injection Series: MFI 12–17, density 0.90–0.93 g/cm³, ash ≤ 0.5%, carbon black 2–2.5%. Thanks to the high carbon black ratio you get outdoor durability without additional UV masterbatch.
