Recycled Granules or Virgin PP? An Honest Comparison
For durability-focused products like crates, pallets and bins, quality recycled black PP granule delivers 90%+ of virgin PP's performance at 30–50% lower cost. For food-contact, medical or high-aesthetic products, virgin material remains necessary.
Comparison table
| Criterion | Recycled Black PP | Virgin PP |
|---|---|---|
| Price | 30–50% lower | Market price |
| Tensile strength | ~80–90% of virgin | Reference |
| Color options | Black (mixed-color feedstock) | Any color possible |
| Food contact | Not suitable | Suitable (certified) |
| UV resistance | Natural via carbon black | Requires UV additive |
| Sustainability | Circular economy, low carbon | Fossil-based |
When is recycled granule sufficient?
For produce crates, pallets, waste bins, pots, automotive interior parts, pipes and profiles, recycled black PP granule is the industry standard. Most black crates produced in Turkey are molded from this material. What matters is the granule's filtration, ash content and batch consistency — when these are controlled, it runs flawlessly in the machine.
When is virgin PP necessary?
- Food-contact products (certification requirement)
- Transparent or light-colored products
- Medical and hygiene products
- High-aesthetic consumer products (glossy white, pastel colors)
The "recycled means low quality" myth
The quality issue isn't recycling itself — it's production discipline. Unwashed, unfiltered, mixed-polymer cheap granule causes problems; properly processed granule has run flawlessly in crate production for decades. That's why every batch we ship includes MFI, density and ash reports — we don't claim quality, we document it.
